Single Studies

If you want to participate in the musical life of the Conservatorium but are unable to undertake full-time study, you may be able to do so through the Single Studies scheme.

Single Studies allows you to undertake specialist training on a particular instrument with one of the Conservatorium’s expert teachers, outside the framework of tertiary degree studies.  The Single Studies scheme is particularly suitable for school students who wish to further develop their skills to a high level, often with a view to entering one of the Conservatorium’s full-time programs at a later stage.  The scheme is designed for advanced musicians and is not suited to beginners.

There are many advantages to the Single Studies scheme, including access to the Elder Music Library, lessons with highly qualified teachers, and the possibility of participating in the Conservatorium’s ensembles, for example the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.

Further details about the scheme are found in our information sheet.

Entry to the Single Studies scheme is subject to audition.  Please contact Susie Gold, Administrator of the Elder Conservatorium Access Centre, on susan.gold@adelaide.edu.au or phone 8313 0304 for further information.

An an application form is available here.  Please submit forms to the Access Centre Administrator, Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide  SA  5005 before 15 January each year.

The Conservatorium has a range of endowed scholarships for Single Studies tuition.  These scholarships are allocated annually by the Director after considering Single Studies audition results.

The Single Studies scheme is also available to students studying for a degree in a different discipline (e.g. Medicine, Law etc.).  These students also have the possibility of instrumental study through the Diploma of Instrumental Music.
