David LockettBMusHons(Adel.), MMus(Adel.), DMus(Adel.), ARCM, LMusA David Lockett studied piano at the the Elder Conservatorium of Music, University of Adelaide and at the Royal College of Music in London. He has performed as a soloist in many parts of the world, including the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, China, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. In addition to his wide ranging solo career, David Lockett is in great demand as an accompanist and chamber music player. He has performed with some of the world’s finest instrumentalists and singers and has developed a most extensive repertoire of sonatas for piano and other instruments. His CD of piano music by the Australian composer Margaret Sutherland was described by Soundscapes International Review of Fine Music as “an enormously important and welcome disc”. The Melbourne Age wrote: “Pianist David Lockett’s quality recording . . . is a must for anyone interested in Australian music”. He has also produced a performing edition of Sutherland’s music, released last year by Allans Publishing David Lockett is a committed teacher and his master classes have been enthusiastically received in many parts of the world. A residency at the Sichuan Conservatory in China during 1991 prompted an immediate invitation for a return visit while in Japan, during his first tour there in 1989, he was awarded honorary life membership of the Piano Teachers’ National Association. In 1998, he was the recipient of one of the "Stephen Cole the Elder" prizes for excellence in teaching awarded by the University of Adelaide. David Lockett is an Associate Professor at the University of Adelaide where he is currently Associate Dean of the Elder Conservatorium of Music. Career Highlights Recitals throughout Australia over a period of thirty years with repertoire ranging from Bach through to the most recent contemporary works. Many of these performances have been broadcast nationally on ABC Classic FM. Performances with orchestra of works by Mozart, Beethoven, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikowsky, Weber, Messiaen, Danckops, Bloch, Górecki, Ravel, Sutherland. Conductors include Nicholas Braithwaite, Willem van Otterloo, Arthur Fiedler, Elyakum Shapirra, Henry Krips, Ezra Rachlin, Patrick Thomas, Sir Bernard Heinze, David Porcelijn, Thomas Mayer, and John Hopkins. Concert tours to New Zealand (1978 and 1989), the United Kingdom (1981 and 1987), the United States (1981), China (1992 and 1993), Japan (1989 and 1992), Korea (1992 and 1996), Brunei (1990), Singapore (1980 and 1992), Hong Kong (1980 and 1992), Malaysia (1992), Canada (1997), Taiwan (1977). Performances at national and international festivals, including the Adelaide Festival (1982, 1984, 1986, 1992, 1994), the Barossa International Music Festival (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997), Okayama Festival, Japan (1989) and the Composing Women Festival (1991). Duo performances with distinguished musicians including Barry Tuckwell (French horn), Mark Lubotsky (violin), Sherry Kloss (violin), John Wion (flute), Peter Lloyd (flute), Jeffrey Crellin (oboe), Janis Laurs (cello), Geoffrey Collins (flute), Daniel Blumenthal (piano). Some 30 première performances of new works by Australian composers: - Membership of the “Lights” new music ensemble.
